Hello everyone! I am pretty sure you are so tired of me starting all of my posts by mentioning my absence, but believe me when I say I'm even more tired of it. I just can't get myself to write regularly. Or do anything regularly for that matter... But nonetheless, I'm here now and I'm writing a very belated post for the first day challenge of 2018 Winter Biannual Bibliathon. If you are not familiar with it, scrolling down just a little bit should solve the problem as I haven't posted anything since the 2017 Summer Bibib. Oh well...
So the first day's challenge is to write a list of books that are great for winter time. These are the five books that I will be recommending today:
Harry Potter - J.K. Rowling
Let's start with an obvious one. Harry Potter is, as you guys already know, a heartwarming adventure with amazing characters and friendships. I first read them during winter and trust me, it's such an amazing experience to cuddle up in bed with cosy blankets and warm drinks, reading Harry Potter.
Blackberry Winter - Sarah Jio
It's been so long since I read this book and to be honest I've forgotten most of the details but what I haven't forgotten is how it made me feel. As far as I can remember, Blackberry Winter follows two women from different periods of time. One of them is a reporter who is doing a research on a "blackberry winter" storm. And the other is from the past, a woman who loses her child on a snowy night.
Like I said, I don't remember everything so don't quote me on that but it's such an incredible story. I know for sure that I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend to anyone who's looking for a warm read.
The Hobbit - J.R.R. Tolkien
Now would this be a recommendation list without a Tolkien book? Of course not. Tolkien has a way with words and the more I read his work, the more I get sucked into the extraordinary world he's built. To me, anytime is Tolkien time but Hobbit, in particular, is great for fall/winter as Bilbo and the company of dwarves set out on an adventure that aims to reach the Lonely Mountain by the end of autumn.
This is probably on the top of my recommendations!
Six of Crows - Leigh Bardugo
I read SoC duology this past summer (the second book being Crooked Kingdom) and I loved it so so much. It follows six characters that go on an "impossible" mission to break someone out of the world's most secure prison. The diversity in these books is brilliant, all of the characters have definitely stuck with me through time and it easily became one of my all time favourites.
There is no specific reason as to why I chose this for a winter recommendation. Fjerda sure is cold but not enough to make it a winter read, I just associate winter with it. There you go!
If I Stay - Gayle Forman
Fun Fact: I actually saw the movie adaptation today, even though I read the book months ago. It was really good; from what I remember, they made a pretty great job with the adaptation.
While I was browsing my shelves for book recs, my eye caught If I Stay and I remembered that it takes place during a February. I finished this book the day I bought it. It's not only short but it's fast-pace.
I think it's best to dive into the story without knowing much so I won't be saying anything!
That is all I have to share with you guys today. I hope you decide to pick up any of the mentioned books and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. You can learn more about this on Biannual Bibliaton YouTube channel. Feel free to join us as we read all together and have fun. I wish you all an amazing readathon!
Thanks for stopping by and I will hopefully see you soon.
